He was awarded the 1970 Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for his children's books STUART LITTLE and CHARLOTTE'S WEB(1952), and his third book for children, THE TRUMPET OF THE SWAN, also won several awards. While Fern was in school, Wilbur was shut up inside his yard. Every creature planned to get up early to see Wilbur off on his great adventure. Her heart was not beating as strongly as usual and she felt weary and old, but she was sure at last that she had saved Wilbur's life, and she felt peaceful and contented.
