It is the term used by the traditional view to designate “God’s ideal, detailed life-plan uniquely designed for each person.” No writer on biblical guidance equates this individual will with God’s sovereign will. Thus, it is called an “alternative to the traditional view.” Many of the books that have been published on this subject over the past two decades continue to follow a common approach to finding God’s will. In fact, most of the regulations that constituted God’s moral will for the Israelites have been moved into the “area of freedom” for Christians. Finally, the traditional view can appeal only to subjective sources of knowledge and thus objective certainty in finding God’s individual will is not possible.
