Heart Lamp: Selected Stories

A mother in confinement for only fifteen days, someone who was not short of anything and lived an easy life, did she have to go to Mysuru herself to run errands? She began to feel that although she was buried in the mists of darkness there was still a ray of hope for her, when the life coiled under several layers began to knock on all sides of her womb. Having to think through socio-cultural traditions like this made translating stories with complicated tiers of relationships both a challenge, and a welcome chance to stop and notice practices so internalised that one takes them for granted.
