As the German comedian Hape Kerkeling says, ‘Love is work, work, work.’ The maintenance people of the business world get overlooked, too. Instead, he talked about the importance of having ‘low expectations’ in a relationship. Falling in love is such a beautiful thing – why not immediately push it to the extremes? But even behind the monastery walls, many things still went pear-shaped: everything from disputes among the monks to financial problems, spiritual drought and finally the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
