Everything that speaks of being in space – which is everything – ambushes them with happiness, and it isn’t so much that they don’t want to go home but that home is an idea that has imploded – grown so big, so distended and full, that it’s caved in on itself. There is that idea of a floating family, but in some ways they’re not really a family at all – they’re both much more and much less than that. The modified mice in group five, however, are bolder, as if they know by some instinct that their inflated size gives them greater advantage and power. He thinks the taxi driver would have a better idea than he does.
