The Road

They crossed the river by an old concrete bridge and a few miles on they came upon a roadside gas station. He pushed the cart off the road and tilted it over where it could not be seen and they left their packs and went back to the station. He found a telephone directory in a filling station and he wrote the name of the town on their map with a pencil. The jamb was splitting on the inside and it finally gave way and he pushed it open and stepped down the companionway into the cabin.
