This Is a Love Story: A Read with Jenna Pick

In the summer, there is pickleball at Wollman Rink, swimming at Lasker Rink, a French festival for Bastille Day, Shakespeare in the Park—always a love story—as well as penguin and sea lion feedings at the zoo. They have spent the past decade in deep introspection, falling in love with themselves—and no one else—first. It feels as though her heart has settled into a reasonable pace, and Jane is aware of space between the features on her face, as though they’d been pulled taut with string, and the string has snapped. When she finally speaks, her voice wobbly and frayed, she says that it is even better than she’d imagined.
